MLB 2k8 Baseball Hitting?

Ok, so i just have a few questions. Lets saying you are using classic mode to hit. You use the batters eye but what does that really do? i mean i know that if you get your batters eye to be where the ball is being pitched then it will tell you where the ball is coming. But, when you are about to hit it do you want the left stick to aim where the ball is being pitched? or Do you want to aim the left stick to the type of hit you want? (As in Up for popfly, right to the first base side, etc, etc). Thanks for your help.
